Lobster Snowboards

Rad Lobster.
Lobster Snowboards is new on the scene, an independent board company created by Hallador and Eiki Helgason. With a focus on Jib and Park riding, the boards have a unique shape, some interesting tech behind them, and a branding all their own. Some shops have even banned some of their boards based on the graphics, so you know they are definitely on to something! Peep Lobster’s website here.

Bon Hiver Freebase Binding System

Once and done.
Some new binding tech is set to hit this Winter. Bon Hiver might be a new name to most, but they have spent a good deal of time developing what soon could be the quickest binding system on the mountain. Their Freebase system allows you to strap-in at the base of the mountain once for the entire day and never have to worry about undoing any of your hard work getting in. The 13 Series and 18 Series use magnets to pull the binding and board plate together, while the 11 Series requires some simple manual effort to achieve alignment. Available for pre-order, these are looking to be an interesting alternative to strapping in!

The Powder Board Design Contest

Get Creative.
We’ve covered the Powder & Rails videos on VBS.TV in the past, a great way to get an understanding of the history of the sport and familiar with the forefathers of style. Now Vice magazine is putting on a design contest with Burton to allow the public to come up with some Powder & Rails inspired snowboard graphics. Entries will be judged by Powder & Rails producer Trevar Cushing, Burton rider and P&R alum Jeff Brushie, and the Vice design team. Grand Prize is a choice of any Burton Snowboard (with the exception of the Method board), a twelve month subscription to Vice, and a DVD. Open to the US only. Get on this! More info on the official Facebook page for the contest.

Burton x Hudson’s Bay Company Custom Board

Canadian Heritage
In a rather unusual move, not uncommon with collaborations these days, Burton Snowboards has teamed up with Canada’s oldest corporation, the Hudson’s Bay Company, to produce a limited edition version of the Custom. The board’s graphics are a direct translation of the signature HBC point blanket, which was introduced during the Canadian fur trade in 1780. For more information on the design, visit HBC’s heritage site here. The 158cm board can be purchased from Burton Flagship stores as well as the official HBC store for a retail cost of $795.
